"It will not be proper for me to speak on this subject...all I can say is that this is a zone which has been vulnerable for quite some time. The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken the note of it. The Government is capable enough to deal with such situation," Jitendra Singh said.

'As the elective representative from the area, my constituency borders with this area...There have earlier also been the reports of Pakistan infiltration and cross border mischief in this area," he added.

Meanwhile, a heavy exchange of fire has resumed between the security forces and terrorists.

One militant has been killed while a Punjab Special Service Group (SSG) jawan has sustained injuries in the ongoing operations.

The death toll in the attack has now risen to eight, including six civilians and two home guards. Four civilians have also sustained injuries.

The gun battle between the security forces and alleged terrorists ensued after the latter opened fire on the police station and a bus.
