JNU row to rock Parliament, Modi govt wants nation to hear debate
Saturday`s all party meeting was chaired by Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present in the meeting.
New Delhi: At an all party meeting of the Rajya Sabha leaders on Saturday, the Modi government agreed to the opposition demand to discuss the JNU controversy in the Budget Session of the Parliament.
The Budget Session is to begin from February 23.
Saturday's all party meeting was chaired by Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present in the meeting.
“We are willing to discuss the JNU issue. Want the entire nation to hear the debate in parliament,” ANI quoted a government source as saying after the all party meet.
The Opposition leaders had demand the Modi government a debate on the JNU controversy and the Rohith Vemula incident in Hyderabad University.
The Modi government and the Opposition have also agreed to pass a bill without discussion in the Rajya Sabha on delimitation exercise in West Bengal to grant voting rights to people who came to India from the Bangladeshi enclaves.
Rajya Sabha had witnessed repeated disruption in the Monsoon and Winter sessions with the Opposition blocking key reform measures of the government.
The Winter Session of the Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die on December 23.
