Deka had caused a stir when he said that many refer to Irani as second wife of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Former Agriculture minister of Assam made the remark at a public gathering in Lower Assam's Nalbari district.

"We demand immediate expulsion of Deka and Kurmi from Congress and strongest possible exemplary punishment to them for making such statements against a popular PM," he said.

Sonowal said Assam BJP will soon file a defamation case against them.

Meanwhile, Deka was also criticised by Twitterati for his remark.
