New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday extended his greetings and felicitations to the Government and people of Portugal on the eve of their National Day.

"On behalf of the Government and people of India and on my own behalf, it gives me great pleasure to convey warm greetings and felicitations to you, the Government and the people of Portugal on the occasion of your National Day," said President Mukherjee in his message to his Portuguese Republic counterpart Anibal Cavaco Silva.


President Mukherjee further said that both the nations cherished warm and friendly relations and shared the desire to further develop political, economic and cultural ties to full potential for mutual benefit.


"India cherishes its warm and friendly relations with Portugal. Both our nations have a shared desire to further develop our political, economic and cultural ties to their full potential for mutual benefit of our peoples. I am confident that we can work together to build a stronger partnership between our two countries," he added.


"Please accept, Excellency, my best wishes for your personal health and well being and for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Portugal," he said.


The Portuguese Republic celebrates its National Day on June 10 every year.
