The apex court also extended the custody of co-accused Sanjeev Khanna - Indrani's ex-husband - and her former driver Shyam Rai for the same period.

Mukerjea, Khanna and Rai were arrested in August on the charge of murdering 24-year-old Sheena and disposing off her body in a Raigad forest in April 2012, about 84 kms from Mumbai.

Sheena was allegedly strangled in a car, then her body was burnt before being dumped in the forest.

Mukerjea was earlier hospitalised after her platelet count dipped drastically. However, doctors at JJ hospital had later made it clear that she had not contracted dengue as suspected.

Notably, former media magnate Peter Mukerjea who is the husband of Indrani, is also one of the four prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.

He was arrested on November 19, 2015, from his Worli home in Maharashtra.

Among other things, the CBI is probing the financial angle as the motive behind the killing, with Mukerjea revealing investments worth crores of rupees in foreign bank accounts.

The CBI is also in contact with the Interpol seeking details of the foreign bank accounts opened or operated by the Mukerjea couple in Hong Kong and other places.

Sheena Bora, Indrani's daughter from an earlier relationship, was killed in April 2012 and her body was dumped in the forests in Raigad and set fire to.
