Singapore: Reminding people of the grave danger posed by terrorism to the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that its fangs not just kill people but also devastate economies.

Lauding Singapore's meteoric rise as a developed nation, he said both nations have been together at many crossroads of time and its success is an inspiration to Indians.


“Size of a nation is no barrier for the scale of its achievements. Singapore is a nation that has become a metaphor for the reality of dreams, it teaches us many things,” PM Modi said at the the 37th Singapore Lecture.


“For me, he (Lee Kuan Yew) was a personal inspiration. From his Singapore stories, I drew many lessons,” PM Modi said.


“In India, the Swachh Bharat campaign is not just a programe to clean environment, but to transform the way we think, live & work,” he said.


“To the people of Singapore on 50 years of Independence, I extend greetings of 1.25 billion friends and admirers,” Modi said.


“I do not judge the success of our efforts from the cold statistics of number, but from the warm glow of smile on human faces. Lack of resources is no constraint for inspiration, imagination and innovation,” he said.


“We are creating opportunities by reforming our laws, regulations, policies, processes and the institutions. We are creating opportunities by reforming our laws, regulations, policies, processes and institutions,” he added.


“People are the purpose of our efforts and they will be the power behind change. We're investing in our people through skill & education, special focus on girl child education, financial inclusion, clean rivers & smart cities,” PM said.
