Bengaluru: The Karnataka government is all set to invoke the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) against police personnel who have decided to go on a mass leave in the state on June 4.

The government has issued a notification stating that ESMA provisions were being invoked to maintain public order and safety, which would be disrupted if the police refuse to discharge their duty. 


At least ten thousand constables from the lower rung of the Karnataka police force have alleged that they are subjected to human violations on a day to day basis. A large section of state’s constabulary have applied for casual leave on June 4 protesting against severe disciplinary action, wage inequality and long working hours. They have also demanded a separate pay commission.


Akhila Karnataka Police Maha Sangha is spearheading the protest led by V Sheshadri, who is a suspended police personnel.
