Amritsar: An illegal structure of old Beharav Nath Temple built by a group of individuals near the historic Durgiana Temple here was today demolished by the district administration during an anti-encroachment drive.
The drive was part of the beautification project around the Durgiana temple by the district administration.
An official of the management of the Durgiana temple said Beharav Nath Temple has no direct or indirect relation with the Durgiana temple.
When contacted, Chairman of Amritsar Improvement Trust Authority Sandeep Rishi said the demolished part of the temple was on government land.
He said the land was acquired by the government in 2008 but the caretaker went to the court and got stay orders against the acquisition, which was vacated in 2012.

Caretaker of the demolished structure Shiv Nath said people from across the country visit here frequently and hence it should not have been touched by the administration in the name of beautification project.
