Venus Express, the first Venus mission exploration of the European Space Agency (ESA), was sent to Venus back in 2005. But after studying the planet for eight years, the craft crashed into the planet's atmosphere in June 2014.

Recently, scientists revealed that final data returned from the fatal plunge found that the polar atmosphere on Venus drops to -157°C (-251°F), which is colder than any spot on Earth and about 70 degrees colder than expected.

The results are extremely exciting considering considering Venus's position as the warmest planet in the Solar System overall.
