Chennai: DMK on Friday announced its candidate to Ulunthoorpet constituency for the May 16 Assembly poll as ally MMK is not contesting from the segment.

The party high command announced G R Vasanthavel as the candidate as the Muslim party was "unable to contest," from the seat, it said.


The decision to field its candidate was arrived at following a consensus between the two parties, a DMK release said.


Earlier, DMK had allotted five seats to MMK, including Ulunthoorpet.


Meanwhile, MMK announced its candidates for the rest of the four constituencies.


MMK President and Ramanathapuram MLA, MH Jawahirullah, will seek a succssive term from the seat.


M A Mohammed Saeed, AM Jebarullah and VM Nazeer Ahmed will contest from Thondamuthur , Nagapattinam and Ambur , respectively, a party release said.
