At a book launch function, Mulayam advised people to stay away from their mobile phones. He asked them to use it only when it is absolutely necessary.

“I don't speak on phone. Because some people press the record button, and later post that conversation online,” the SP chief said.

The event was also attended by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his cabinet colleagues.

When Mulayam's turn came to address the gathering, he deviated from the topic and instead advised his party leaders, workers and other people at the venue to sparingly use their mobile phones. He said that it should be used only when there is no other facility or means of communication.

He also gave a word of advice to women. “Be alert, always keep in mind that when you use your mobile phone always keep the conversation as short as possible. Using mobile phone is dangerous.”

To further drive home his point, he gave an example: “Once I was speaking on mobile phone, I did not use any bad language, but the person on the other end recorded the conversation and later told people that look what he said.”

Actually Mulayam's fear for mobile phones is not entirely baseless. Recently, an IAS officer had accused him of abusing him on phone and asserted that he recorded the conversation and he would make it public.
