New Delhi: If the government accepts recommendation of the panel established to suggest ways to promote cashless economy, charges on cash payment may be next in line. As per a report published by the Economic Times, panel set up to suggest ways to the government to promote e-payments has suggested government to levy charge on payments made in cash.

The report informs that the panel led by former finance secretary Ratan Watal has suggested various steps to cut down on cash usage in the economy from 12 percent of GDP in three years in the 30-90 days timeline.


The panel has suggested a number of measures and amendments in the payments system to promote cashless economy.


The government is promoting digital payments since its demonetisation move on November 8.
