OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has left the company to start his new venture. OnePlus was started by Carl Pei with Pete Lau in 2013. 

Carl Pei has left the company just before the launch of OnePlus 8T.

Carl Pei has started his new venture into consumer electronics with a company named "Nothing" on Wednesday (January 27).

The company will start unveiling its first line of smart devices in the first half of this year.

Carl Pei has definitely gone bold as far as the naming strategy is concerned.

"It's been a while since anything interesting happened in tech. It is time for a fresh breeze of change... We believe that the best technology is beautiful, yet natural and intuitive to use.

"When sufficiently advanced, it should fade into the background and feel like nothing," Carl Pei said in a statement.

Nothing's mission is to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future, he added.

The official website has described the company which states that:

"We're rethinking everything. From what we make and how we make it. To what goes in and what goes out. A giant reset button for all things innovation.

And so we go. Confident that technology in reach isn't worth reaching for. We know because we tried reaching a little further.

And came up with nothing."

The venture has received USD 7 million seed funding from eminent business minds including Indian entrepreneur Kunal Shah.

The list of investors is studded with high profile names such as Reddit CEO and co-founder Steve Huffman, Twitch cofounder Kevin Lin, Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave and YouTuber Casey Neistat
