In Pics: Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan mark 30 years of love and companionship!

 Bollywood's power couple Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan celebrated their 30th anniversary on Monday (October 25). The duo had gotten married on 25 October 1991.

Gauri's family were not thrilled to have SRK as their son-in-law initially. Her father Ramesh Chibba didn't have a positive view of the entertainment industry and didn't want Gauri to be associated with an actor.

An excerpt from Anupama Chopra's book King of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema sheds light on an incident when Gauri's brother threatened SRK with a gun to stay away from Gauri.

Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan had tried to 'fool' Gauri Khan on their honeymoon when he said he'd take her to Paris but ended up in Darjeeling.

 

He recalled the incident at the Hindustan Times Most Stylish 2019, saying, "When I got married, I was very poor while Gauri was middle-class, well-to-do. So like how usually everyone does, I had promised her that after we get married, ‘I’ll take you to Paris and show you the Eiffel Tower’. But obviously, it was all a lie because neither I had the money nor I had the air tickets but somehow I convinced her. I fooled her into believing I was taking her to Paris and took her to Darjeeling."

When Shah Rukh Khan had married Gauri, he didn't have a lavish lifestyle as he does now. In fact, he had to borrow a suit from the sets of his film 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman' for his marriage.

Surprisingly, Gauri Khan wasn't very enthusiastic about the film industry when SRK was just starting out. Her close friend Karan Johar once told Vogue in an interview, "She prayed for Shah Rukh's film to fail so that they could move back to Delhi."

The duo welcomed their first child Aryan Khan in 1997 and then they welcomed their daughter Suhana Khan on May 22, 2000. Their youngest son AbRam was conceived through surrogacy in 2013.
