India's Last Railway Station Where No Train Ever Stops; Located On India-Bangladesh Border

Singhabad is often dubbed as India’s last railway station due to its unique geographical position and its role in the railway network. It does not serve as a starting or ending point for passenger trains but stands as a quiet sentinel marking the edge of the nation.

This railway established during the British era, and Singhabad holds historical importance. It was a key link between Kolkata and Dhaka, with notable figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose reportedly travelling was  through this station en route to Dhaka before India’s independence.

According to the latest reports, this station is now completely silent. No train stops here for any passenger. It is used only for goods trains.  

Following India’s independence and the creation of Bangladesh in 1971, Singhabad’s function evolved. In 1978, an agreement permitted freight trains to operate from Singhabad.  

Further, a 2011 amendment expanded its role to include transit trains to and from Nepal, making Singhabad a vital transit point for goods and underscoring its strategic importance in regional trade. 

Today, Indian Railways stands as the fourth-largest rail network in the world, with a route length exceeding 68,000 km.
