The second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive, which began on Monday (March 1) in India, witnessed a good turnout. This phase is for people aged 60 and above, and those in the 45-59 age bracket with comorbidities. The Monday morning started with a pleasant surprise, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached AIIMS Delhi at 6 am to receive his first shot of COVID-19 vaccine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly received the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS Delhi on Monday morning. The Prime minister’s move, of taking the first shot in the early morning, boosted citizen's confidence in vaccination drive. “The Prime Minister said ‘Laga Bhi Di, Pata Hi Nahi Chala’ (Oh it’s done, I didn't even realise it),” revealed Sister Niveda who gave the PM his first shot.

Karnataka’s 97-year-old man, Ramaswami Parthasarathy, took his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine at Manipal Hospitals in Bengaluru today. He was the first person to get vaccinated in the state.
