Former India cricketer Lala Amarnath who was the nation’s first independent skipper is still considered one of the greatest all-rounders Indian cricket has ever produced. 

Born in Kapurthala on September 11, 1911, Lala Amarnath created a huge impact on Indian cricket by collecting 878 runs at an average of 24.38 runs in 24 Test matches, including one century and four half-centuries. He also picked up 45 wickets.

Lala Amarnath created history as he became the first Indian cricketer to make a century in his debut Test, scoring 118 runs in the second innings.

Lala Amarnath was one such bowler who could bowl with accurate line and length. The former India cricketer while taking part in the Brisbane Test of 1947, scalped the wicket of great Sir Don Bradman.
