Mohammed Shami found himself in trouble again after his US visa got rejected due to his existing police record on domestic violence and adultery charges. It was only when BCCI stepped in, that the India national cricket team bowler got the clearance.

After India lost to Pakistan in the Twenty20 World Cup 2021, the only Muslim player in the Indian team, Mohammed Shami, faced a barrage of abuse and communal hatred online. He was termed a "bloody Pakistani in Team India" and asked to "Go to Pakistan". Hasin Jahan in 2018 had accused her husband Shami of domestic violence, rape and attempt-to-murder and various other charges. Not just Shami, his brother was also named in the charges she levelled. While both have separated and don't stay together anymore, the couple still hasn't divorced yet.

India was under pressure of maintaining its winning streak against the Pakistani in the World Cup and the team hit off to a good start with over a 100-partnership between Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan for the third wicket.
