Meet Nurse And Mother Of Three Who Transformed Grief Into Success, Starting With Just Rs 3,300 – Now Earning Rs 1.02 Crore Annually From Side Hustle
Megan Walsh, a nurse from New Jersey, began her crafting business, MegansMenagerie, after her father's death. In March 2021, struggling with grief and pandemic stress, she started crafting wall decor with eucalyptus as a tribute to him.
Starting Small with Big Growth: With an initial investment of $40 (around Rs 3,300), Walsh's side business quickly gained traction. Her Etsy shop resonated with customers, leading to $121,400 (Rs 1.02 crore) in sales within a year.
Walsh reduced her full-time hours as an endoscopy nurse to part-time, working 24 to 32 hours weekly. She now spends about 12 to 24 hours on her Etsy shop, which averages a monthly income of $9,800 (Rs 8.24 lakh).
This side business provided significant financial relief, allowing Walsh to contribute to her family’s needs, such as buying her daughter’s first car and funding other special expenses.
Walsh’s crafting journey started back in 2009 when she initially sold crocheted items like scarves. Although her shop slowed in 2014, she reignited her passion during the pandemic.
Profits from her Etsy shop have funded family vacations, helped pay down student loans, and even covered a $20,000 vow renewal ceremony with her husband.
Thanks to her crafting success, Walsh’s husband is now a stay-at-home dad for their three children, giving her family stability and enabling her to focus on what she loves.
