The Blue Moon for the month of August is also known as Sturgeon Moon as been so named after the fish that Native Americans would catch at this time of year. It also referred to as the green corn moon, grain moon, and the red moon for the reddish hue it often takes on in the summer haze. See Pics

People in the Americas will be able to see a nearly full moon on Saturday night, before the true blue moon reaches its highest point in the sky, through till Sunday morning. Check the moon rise time in your city to ensure you don't miss this.

The full blue moon happens about once every 2.7 years on average. A blue moon is the third full moon in a season which usually has four full moons, rather than the usual three. This is the eighth full moon of the year 2021.
