Independence Day 2024: India is celebrating its 78th Independence Day today. Most of the countries across the world have a history of being enslaved by others but do you know there are some countries like Ethiopia, Bhutan, Nepal, Thailand, and China, that have never been enslaved by foreign powers? Despite attempts by invaders, these nations remained free from colonial rule. Today, we will highlight some key facts about Nepal.

Nepal is often highlighted as a country that was never enslaved. Located close to India, it successfully resisted multiple invasions, preserving its sovereignty throughout history.

In 1349, Shamsuddin Ilyas Shah attacked Nepal, aiming to loot Kathmandu. However, the Gorkha army repelled the invasion, maintaining Nepal’s independence.

In the 18th century, Mir Qasim attempted to conquer Nepal, but his forces were once again defeated by the Gorkha army, preventing foreign domination.

Between 1814 and 1816, Nepal engaged in a war with the British, known as the Gorkha War. The conflict ended without a decisive victory for either side.
