2019 World Cup is far away, Virat Kohli should not be rushed into captaincy in all formats: Sunil Gavaskar
Apart from being the leading run-getter with 561 runs in nine games in IPL 2016, Kohli is also averaging 95.57 in Twenty20 Internationals in 2015/16.
New Delhi: Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar is of the opinion that despite his red hot form, Virat Kohli should not be rushed into being India's limited-overs skipper as well.
Speaking to NDTV on Tuesday, Gavaskar said, "Virat should not be rushed into captaincy in all formats. Let him grow into this role... 2019 World Cup is far away."
Apart from being the leading run-getter with 561 runs in nine games in IPL 2016, Kohli is also averaging 95.57 in Twenty20 Internationals in 2015/16.
The flamboyant right-hander has two centuries under his belt playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) this season. But despite his incredible consistency, RCB are languishing at sixth position in points table with four wins from nine matches.
Speaking on RCB's show this season, Gavaskar said, "Bowlers have let Bangalore down in IPL. Kohli is as good as his team."
RCB are still in the hunt for the play-offs and will take on Mumbai Indians in Match 41 of the tournament at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore today.
