Poll cash: I-T dept steps up vigil at IGI airport
The Income Tax department has stepped up vigil at the IGI airport and along the borders of the national capital region in order to check illegal movement of cash in the forthcoming polls in five states, including UP and Punjab.

Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
The department, while strengthening its Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here with the help of CCTV cameras, has also deployed special teams to check the movement of undisclosed cash to poll bound Uttar Pradesh through the borders of the national capital.
Delhi shares its border with Uttar Pradesh`s Noida and Ghaziabad. The measures have been taken on the directions of the Election Commission (EC). "The measures have been strengthened. While Delhi shares land border with only one poll-bound state, Uttar Pradesh, vehicular movement to other states like Punjab and Uttarakhand is also possible. The airport AIU is also keeping a track of private and chartered flights originating from here to poll going states," a senior I-T officer said.
EC has taken the help of various I-T investigation units in the poll-bound states of UP, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, and also of Delhi to keep a check and curb black money, suspected to be used in polls to lure voters. While Manipur goes to polls on January 28, Punjab and Uttarakhand will have a one-phase voting on January 30. Uttar Pradesh will have it first phase of voting on February 4 and Goa goes to poll on March 3.
Recently, the I-T department had seized, from two vans, cash of about Rs 12.98 crore after it was intercepted at Delhi`s border with Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh).
