West Indian eves crush Australia by 8 wickets to win maiden ICC World T20 title
While chasing a tricky total of 149 runs, West Indies got off to a solid start, and won the match with three balls to spare.
New Delhi: West Indian women's team beat Australia by eight wickets in the 2016 ICC Women's World Twenty20 summit clash to win their maiden title.
While chasing a tricky total of 149 runs, West Indies got off to a solid start as both the openers -- Hayley Matthews (66) and Stafanie Taylor (59) -- added 120 runs under 16 overs.
In the last over, they needed three runs to seal the match and the Windies team achieved the target in the first three balls.
Three-time champions Australia looked clueless while defending the total as their bowlers found it hard to get the wickets to put West Indies batsmen under any sort of pressure.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Australia decided to bat. But even after the half-centuries by Elyse Villani (52), Meg Lanning (52) defending champions couldn't manage to cross the 150-run mark.
WI pacer, Deandra Dottin emerged as the most successful bowler in the match with two wickets at the cost of 33 runs in four overs.
