Post-conviction in over a decade old bribery case, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party chief Bangaru Laxman resigned from party`s national executive on Monday.

New Delhi: Post-conviction in over a decade old bribery case, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party chief Bangaru Laxman resigned from party’s national executive on Monday.
According to reports, Laxman sent a formal resignation letter to the party president Nitin Gadkari. Bangaru was recently sentenced to four years in prison by a Delhi court after his conviction in 2001 fake arms deal case. However, Bangaru’s lawyer said that the former BJP president would appeal in the High Court against the order. Following his conviction, BJP had distanced itself from the case saying that Bangaru acted in his individual capacity and the party was not named in the FIR filed in the case.
