Islamabad: The widow of a Pakistani Taliban fighter has allegedly confessed to her involvement in several high-profile terrorist attacks in Karachi, including facilitating terrorists who stormed a key naval airbase, police said.
Sabiha Khatoon, the wife of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan militant Qari Shahid Khan, has made several disclosures during interrogation, Sindh police chief Mushtaq Shah said on Wednesday.
Khan and two other suspected militants were killed in a shootout with police on December 5. Shah said a joint interrogation team will be formed to further question Sabiha and verify her claims.
Media reports said Sabiha had revealed that she and her husband were involved several terrorist attacks over the past few years, including carrying out reconnaissance of the PNS Mehran airbase in May. A group of heavily armed terrorists stormed the naval airbase in Karachi on May 22, killing 10 security personnel and destroying two P3C Orion maritime surveillance aircraft worth millions of dollars.
Military officials later said the attackers possibly received "inside support and help" for the brazen attack.
Sabiha reportedly told police that five terrorists had come from Waziristan to attack the airbase. Sabiha and her husband were involved in planning a bomb attack at Karachi University in December last year, the investigators said. She said her husband was also involved in planning a motorcycle bomb attack on a police vehicle in Malir area of Karachi. The bomb was placed by a terrorist from the banned Jundullah group. PTI
