Baghdad: Iraqi officials say a roadside bomb targeting a police patrol has killed one person in southeastern Baghdad, two days after a blast in the same area claimed the lives of 33 people.
Police officials said the Sunday morning attack in Baghdad`s predominantly Shi’ite neighbourhood of Zafaraniyah wounded nine others. Hospital officials confirmed the casualties.
All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to release the information. On Friday, a suicide car bomber struck a Shi’ite funeral procession in Zafaraniyah. Many Iraqis suspect al Qaeda militants of engineering a recent series of attacks on Shiites to provoke a counterattack by Shiite militias, and rekindle sectarian conflict now that US troops have left Iraq.
