The former India captain's first assignment will be the tour of West Indies next month.

Soon after addressing media, Kumble took to social micro-blogging site Twitter to thank past and present cricketers.

While Kumble is an Indian cricket legend, BCCI offered him just a one-year-contract as he does not have any coaching experience.

One of the most important requirements for the Karnataka man's success will his ability to work closely with the two India captains MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Wasting no time, Kumble reached out to both of them after his appointment.

Kumble will be seeing a lot more of Virat this year, as Team India is scheduled to play a lot of  Test cricket.
