According to a report published in ESPN Cricinfo, Riaz extended his support to Amir and said he will prove his worth once again.

"Amir is a great introduction to the team," Wahab said. "He's getting a chance. He's a great fast bowler - he's proved that in the past. It's time for him to prove here as well, again. And he will prove it. With him there's less pressure on me as a bowler, because I'm getting his support. Umar Gul is back and is doing really well. It's going to be a good combination for Pakistan."

Further hailing the 23-year-old, Wahab said. "He can bowl outswing as well. If you can take wickets with the new ball the pressure will always be on the batsmen. That's I'm saying that him coming into the team will help us more."

The left-arm bowler, who fell from grace in 2010 after admitting to his role in a spot-fixing scandal, has returned to the national side after a gap of five years.

The 23-year-old's inclusion for the team camp in Lahore led to a protest from senior players like Azhar Ali and Mohammad Hafeez.

However, the duo was later placated by PCB chairman Shahryar Khan.

Amir last appeared for the national team in a Test against England at Lord's in August 2010 before the scandal came to the fore.
