Macedonia asks NATO for second chance to join
Macedonia`s Prime Minister has urged NATO members to give his country another chance to join the alliance at its summit later this month.
Skopje: Macedonia`s Prime Minister has urged NATO members to give his country another chance to join the alliance at its summit later this month.
The alliance rejected Macedonia`s previous bid in 2008, following objections from neighboring Greece. Athens has a long-running dispute with Skopje over Macedonia`s name, which Greece claims could imply claims on its own northern province called Macedonia. In a letter obtained by a news agency on Thursday, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said a December 5 ruling by an international court condemning Greece`s decision could make NATO reconsider. He says it would be "rational, proper and fair" for NATO to revise the 2008 decision. Expansion isn`t on the agenda of the May 20-21 meeting in Chicago.
