Saharsa: JD(U) president and NDA convener Sharad Yadav on Monday slammed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for "strongly defending" his ministers, including P Chidambaram and demanded that Singh should explain before the nation as to why he was defending "such tainted cabinet colleagues".
"We strongly oppose PM for coming in strong defense of ministers, including Union Home Minister Chidambaram for his (Chidambaram`s) lapse in connection with the 2G spectrum," Yadav said. "Even the Prime Minister can`t escape from his responsibility particularly because the name of Chidambaram had cropped up in the scam ... he should soon decide on the matter," the JD(U) president said.
Maintaining that Prime Minister was not only "custodian" of the ministers but also the entire nation, Yadav said "the minister who is involved in the scam be handed over to the court of law."
Affirming that the Opposition would not allow the government to bury the scams which were being unearthed during the UPA-2, he sarcastically remarked "PM should instead of protecting the properties of the ministers should have tried to save the properties of the country (the 2G spectrum)." Commenting on Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi being jailed in the CWG irregularities, Yadav remarked "it is just the tail of an elephant while the full elephant is still enjoying liberty."
Yadav, later, left for New Delhi after a week-long visit to his Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency.
