Srinagar: National Conference MP Sharifuddin Shariq on Tuesday said he supported the resolution moved by an independent legislator in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly seeking clemency for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
"My individual opinion is that resolution should be supported," Shariq, who represents Baramulla constituency in Lok Sabha, told reporters here.
The state Assembly is scheduled to debate the resolution seeking amnesty for Guru on September 28. Independent MLA from Langate constituency in Kupwara, Sheikh Abdul Rashid had submitted a resolution to the Assembly Secretariat seeking amnesty to Guru, who is on death row following his conviction in the 2001 Parliament attack case.
The J&K Assembly is meeting for a week-long session on September 26. While he refused to comment on his party`s stand vis-a-vis the resolution, Shariq said he has no objection to be in support of the resolution.
"National Conference stands for whatever is in favour of Kashmir and in favour of Kashmiris," he said.
Meanwhile, Shariq blamed opposition PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for the unmarked graves in north Kashmir saying many of them may date back to the rule of Governor Jagmohan in 1990, when Sayeed was the Union Home Minister.
"Sayeed is responsible for everything that has gone wrong in Kashmir," Shariq said blaming the PDP leader for every alleged major killing in Kashmir since 1990, including 115 civilian deaths in the last year.
The NC leader alleged that PDP was behind the last year`s summer unrest as they wanted to grab power.
Shariq also criticised the BJP and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti for praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
"It is a similar mindset. Be it Narendra Modi or Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, they are the two sides of same coin, be it Advani and Mehbooba Mufti, they are two sides of the same coin," he said.
