Itanagar: Four cadres of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) were apprehended by the Assam Rifles (AR) from Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh and pistols with a huge cache of ammunition seized from them.
Acting on a tip off, the AR personnel went into Maitri village during heavy rains last night and nabbed the four frim in the house of a Chakma woman forced to give them protection, official sources said today. Two US-made 7.65 mm pistols and one Chinese-made .22 mm pistol besides a huge cache of ammunition were seized from them, the sources said, adding, four mobile phones and one combat dress were also recovered from them.
The four, between 19 and 25 years, had taken shelter in the village to extort money from local traders. The UPDF is believed to have strong links with the proscribed ULFA and NSCN(K) and has been involved in extortions, kidnappings and other illegal activities at Namsai and adjoining areas.
