Islamabad: Pakistan’s government on Thursday denied all media reports related to Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz’s claim that ISI chief wanted Asif Ali Zardari to be sacked as the President of Pakistan.
Pak’s foreign ministry spokesman Abdul Bashit has ridiculed the media reports saying that there was no truth in the claim. He said that Zardari had been discharged from Dubai hospital late Wednesday and there was no question of him resigning as the President. Earlier, Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz had confirmed the claim in a blog in a British daily saying Pakistan`s powerful spy agency chief General Shuja Pasha, had sought and got permission from senior Arab leaders to oust President Asif Ali Zardari.
Ijaz also said he had met President Zardari in a hotel in Washington in 2009 and that meeting was arranged by Pakistan`s former envoy to the US, Husain Haqqani.
Meanwhile, the apex court of Pakistan has sought responses from President Asif Ali Zardari, Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and the ISI chief seeking a probe into the Memogate scandal. The abrupt departure of President Zardari over a heart condition to Dubai on December 6 had sparked coup rumours. There have been conflicting reports of his health; with one saying he suffered a minor attack and another that he had a stroke that caused bleeding in the brain and facial paralysis.
