Nainital: With Assembly elections round the corner in five states, the BJP on Sunday said the party would utilise the image and achievements of former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to its advantage in the run up to the polls.
Briefing reporters on the decisions taken at a one-day national meet of BJP general secretaries here in light of upcoming Assembly election in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur and Uttar Pradesh, party general secretary Anant Kumar said BJP has decided to celebrate Vajpayee`s birthday on December 25 as `Good Governance Day` in the country. A meeting of representatives from BJP and NDA-ruled states will be organised on December 9 in New Delhi to discuss the details in this regard, he said.
BJP and NDA-ruled states and municipal corporations will organise exhibitions on December 25 to demonstrate the best practices adopted and applied for good governance by them, Kumar said.
The celebration is to mark the contribution of Vajpayee during his six-year rule under the NDA regime, he added. Regarding BJP`s strategy in the five poll-bound states, Kumar said the party will "come back to power in Punjab and Uttarakhand, while it targets to replace the Congress government in Goa".
Claiming that the BSP and Samajwadi Party have lost their mass base in Uttar Pradesh and public is aware of Congress` failures at the Centre, he said BJP has emerged as the most suitable option before the people in the state.
