Sindhu, who became the first Indian shuttler to clinch a Silver medal at the mega event, was handed over the keys of a brand new blue-coloured BMW by the batting icon on Sunday.

Not to forget, when Saina Nehwal clinched a Bronze medal at Rio Olympics 2012, Tendulkar gifted her a BMW as well. At the same event, the Master Blaster handed over the keys of a Swift Dzire to Sindhu, who had won the girls' singles title in the Asian Youth Under-19 Championship in 2012.

Recalling that moment, Sindhu said that Sachin had promised to give her another car if she won a medal at the Olympics.

“Last time, when I received the first car – Swift Dzire – from Sachin sir, he told me that he would present me with another car if I win the medal at Olympics. Today, my dream has come true. I thank my coach Gopichand for helping me travel to this stage. I will put in my best efforts to get gold medals in my future tournaments,” Sindhu said.

While Sindhu was gifted a red-coloured BMW car, her coach Pullela Gopichand and gymnast Dipa were presented with white-coloured ones and bronze-medallist Sakshi got a dark-grey BMW.

Tendulkar, who was also the goodwill ambassador of the Indian team at Rio, handed over the keys at a function held at the Gopichand Badminton Academy.
