New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today transferred the investigation into the murder of IT student Shobhit Modi, who was fatally stabbed near his South Delhi residence, to crime branch of Delhi Police. Justice Mukta Gupta, while declining a plea by Shobhit`s father Suraj Modi to transfer the investigation from Delhi Police to CBI, directed that the probe should carried out by the crime branch of police. "The investigation to be carried out by the crime branch of Delhi Police under the direct supervision of the DCP concerned," Justice Mukta said.
20-year-old Shobhit, a student of Manav Rachna University in Faridabad, was fatally stabbed by unknown persons near his Vasant Kunj residence on May 5, this year. Shobhit`s father had filed a petition before the High Court seeking transfer of the case to CBI alleging that the police has failed to find any clue about the culprits although police was given all the evidences including Shobhit`s laptop and mobile phone data. Accusing the father and brother of Shobhit`s girlfriend of being involved in his murder, the slain youth`s family had alleged that the city police was ignoring vital leads in the case, including the contents of SMSes exchanged between the victim and his girlfriend.
Opposing the plea for transfer of the probe, the city police had told the court that it already examined over 1,100 people in the case. The Delhi Police counsel, during the previous hearing had submitted that several police teams were working under the supervision of DCP (South) but no clue was found as yet.
