Bhopal: Ruling BJP and Opposition Congress on Tuesday traded charges on issues of development at a function here to mark the foundation day of Madhya Pradesh.
Both the sides criticised each other over infrastructure issues especially water supply, power supply and roads.
Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Singh said, "Despite the tall claims made by the ruling BJP, nothing much has been done about the development in the state, ever since it came to power in December 2003."
Singh said there was acute power shortage in the state, which has hit the farmers badly and the same thing is true about roads. These issues had reportedly led to Congress` defeat during the December 2003 Assembly elections and are again likely to play a major role in the 2013 general elections in the state.
Rubbishing the charges levelled by Singh, Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Babulal Gaur said under the BJP rule, a lot of development had taken place in the state. "The BJP has done over the last seven years, what the Congress was unable to do in 50 years," he said at the 56th foundation day function here.
