Port Blair, Feb 14: Defence Minister, George Fernandes has commended the sterling role being played by the cadets of the National Cadet Corp in serving the society and the nation at large. Addressing NCC cadets from different states of the country, including Andaman and Nicobar islands, taking part in the national integration camp being held in Port Blair, the defence minister lauded the key role played by the NCC cadets in bringing relief and succour to the victims of violence in Gujarat and during the Orissa cyclone.
He said such camps serve to instil a sense of national integration.
The NCC cadets have earned a name for themselves the world over. They are known for their integrity, honesty and discipline, he said.
Altogether, 132 cadets drawn from army, navy and air force wing, 50 of them from the islands, are participating in the camp. The cadets also interacted with the defence minister today.
