Mathura: As thousands of farmers in march towards Delhi in protest against the Centre's farm laws, farmers from Uttar Pradesh have seemed to join the demonstration and were seen coming out in huge numbers.

The Yamuna Expressway has reportedly jammed as the activists of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) came out support of the 'Chalo Delhi' call by the farmers from Punjab. The protesters near mile stone 133 at Garhsauli laid on the floor.


The vehicles at the expressway came to a standstill due to the jam. A large number of police personnel has been deployed on the spot.


Meanwhile, in Baghpat there was heavy police deployment in Uttar Pradesh's to stop the protesting farmers. The border has been barricaded as BKU announced that will join the agitating farmers to march towards Delhi.


Punjab farmers, representing over 30 farm bodies, have announced that they will enter Delhi through several routes -- Lalru, Shambhu, Patiala-Pehowa, Patran-Khanauri, Moonak-Tohana, Ratia-Fatehabad and Talwandi-Sirsa.


The traffic along Delhi border has been diverted at several places in view of the protest. Checking of vehicles has also been intensified at the Delhi-Gurgaon border which has lead to heavy traffic jams.


The police reportedly resorted to using water cannons and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the protesting farmers.  


Notably the Centre has said that it is ready for talks and extended an invitation to all the agitating farmer organisations for talks on December 3.


Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar urged the protesting farmers to keep the faith and be patient.


"We are ready to talk to farmers with an open mind. We have called all the farmers' organisations on December 3 and we have talked before and are still ready for talks," he said.
