Multan, June 04: At least 11 people have died in Pakistan over the past 24 hours as several cities sizzled in scorching heat, raising the toll from the current wave to more
than 50, officials said today.
The mercury shot up to 48 degree Celsius in Multan and
across central Punjab province while Jacobabad and Sibi towns
of southern Sindh province experienced the hottest day of the
season when the temperature there rose to 50 degree Celsius,
they said.
At least 50 people have died of heat stroke and
dehydration across Pakistan since yesterday, hospital and
health ministry officials said.
Around 300 people, including schoolchildren, teachers and
vendors, have fainted in the sweltering temperatures.
Forty-one people died due to the heat when temperatures
rose to 41 degrees Celsius.
