This train will now cover an additional 48 km between Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan, reducing the overall distance on the new rail line between Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal-Sangaldan to 185.66 km, saving 47.23 km.
Connecting Kashmir To India
The completion of this rail line will connect Kashmir to other parts of the country, fulfilling the dream of rail travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The Prime Minister also flagged off the first electric train in the valley and the train service between Sangaldan station and Baramulla station.
Economic Development Of Region
The commissioning of the Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan section is noteworthy as it utilizes Ballast Less Track (BLT) on the entire route, ensuring a smoother riding experience for passengers. Moreover, the stretch between Khari-Sumber boasts India's longest rail tunnel, T-50 (12.77 km). These railway improvements aim to foster stability in Kashmir and contribute to the overall economic development of the region.

Babe Abid Amin Shah, Assistant General Manager of IRCON, expressed his enthusiasm, stating that it's a significant step in connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country through rail. With most of the main work completed, only a few kilometers remain, and he believes that Kashmir will be connected to Jammu by rail in the next couple of months.
