Karachi: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has said that although there are no `serious concerns` regarding the lack of quality fast bowlers in the country, however, the available batch needs to be aggressive and also adapt to the new rules that have been introduced in one-day international (ODI) cricket.
His comments came after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Selector Iqbal Qasim stated that the country was facing a dearth of quality pacers, although the country had the luxury of several tear-away fast-bowlers like the iconic Imran Khan, Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar in the last three decades.
Insisting that experience and adaptation to the demands of international cricket are the few things fast-bowlers need to work on, the legendary paceman said that the quicks need to be aggressive in their approach, adding that the attitude of a fast-bowler is an important tool which is currently missing in the country`s bowlers.
According to Akram, aggression is an important part of the game especially fast bowling, adding that a fast bowler need to get fired up after getting hit for a six.
Encouraging the bowlers to ask him questions and share the problems they face with the old and new ball, Akram said that the bowlers need to learn how to bowl on different tracks and conditions, adding that he will try to inculcate the best attributes into the next generation of fast bowlers.
The legendary fast-bowler is currently supervising a 10-day long training camp set up for 18 pacemen at the National Stadium, Karachi, the report added.
