Expensive promotions stifling small films: Sanjay Suri

Actor-producer Sanjay Suri believes expensive promotions are not healthy for small films made on good topics.

Mumbai: Actor-producer Sanjay Suri believes expensive promotions are not healthy for small films made on good topics.
"Media has become expensive and it has become very tough to promote small films - especially the films that I have made...I always say one thing, you can make an inexpensive film but you cannot have an inexpensive release," he told reporters here Thursday.
He was speaking at the press conference of his forthcoming film `Prem Mayee`, in which he is playing an important role. "This is a serious problem because of which some very good films are unable to even reach the theatre. Films these days are first made on excel sheets, and until the sum adds up on it, the film will not even reach the floor," he added. Directed by Shekhar S. Jha, `Prem Mayee` tells the story of people in love and how circumstances make them realise the inevitable. It also stars Chandrachur Singh and Shreya Narayan and hits theatres Oct 12. Sanjay, 42, whose co-production `I Am` won the National Award for Best Hindi film, feels his responsibility as a filmmaker has increased. He said: "Responsibility increases with a National Award, it`s such a big award - be it as an actor or as in my case, as a producer. So while making our next film, we will keep that responsibility in mind." Directed and co-produced by Onir, `I Am` also won the National Award for best lyrics. IANS
