NEW DELHI: A teenaged female footballer from Delhi drowned to death on Sunday while she went to Australia to attend the Pacific School Games Tournament.

Nitisha Negi, 15, was reportedly taking selfies with her friends when she was swept away by waves at the Holdfast Marina Beach in Adelaide.

Negi was a student of east Delhi's Rajkiya Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya. She left for Australia on November 30.

The 15-year-old was one of the five Indian footballers who was washed away by a huge wave. The four others, however, were rescued.

Her body was recovered near a rocky breakwater.

Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry has ordered a probe into the matter.
