New Delhi: Actress Kajal Agarwal, who was last seen opposite Ajay Devgn in ‘Singham’, says she regrets having rejected many Hindi film offers due to her prior commitments down south.
The 26-year-old actress made her Bollywood debut in 2004 with ‘Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na’ and moved to Telugu film industry. There she hit the bull`s eye with films like ‘Chandamama’, ‘Magadheera’ and ‘Darling’.
"I was not being too choosy about Bollywood. I had commitments down south that kept me engaged. In the process I did miss out on a couple of films due to date issues and honestly, I do regret that.
"Still, I couldn`t help it since it was difficult to accommodate them all, especially when I was told that the films were to begin at a very short notice. I decided to wait before something good came my way," she told PTI.
Kajal is currently busy shooting her third Bollywood project "Special Chabbis", where she plays the love interest of Akshay Kumar. The multi-starrer film is being directed by Neeraj Pandey.
"I have watched Neeraj`s `A Wednesday` and it was fantastic. So, I could not say no to him. Till now, everything has worked out quite well in the film. Who wouldn`t want to work with such a director? And then of course there is Akshay. With such an interesting character to play, I wouldn`t have let go of this film," she said.
‘Special Chabbis’ is based on the real-life daring heist in 1987 where an unknown man posing as CBI officer Mon Singh recruited 26 men and executed a daylight raid on the Opera House branch of a jewelry store and disappeared with ornaments worth lakhs.
Being shot in Delhi and Mumbai, the film also stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Manoj Bajpayee and Anupam Kher in principal roles.
In the film, which is slated for year end release, Kajal is the only female artiste. But, the actress said her character in the film made her to go for the male-dominated film.
"The subject really excited me. Even though there are four powerful male actors in the film, I am not intimidated by their presence. In fact I am looking forward to working with them," she said.
After working in Telugu and Hindi films, Kajal said she does not follow any strategy of choosing a film. Rather, she goes with her instincts after reading a script.
"I have never sat down to strategise about movies. It is never about what will I do next to get some more good opportunities. I have been very instinctive right through my career because there is no other way that I can function. If I like a story, I give it a green signal. I don`t start envisaging what would happen next," Kajal said.
