New Delhi: Going by the nominations list for the 85th edition of the Oscar awards, it seems that the battle for the best director title is going to be tougher this time too.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which will distribute the awards across 24 categories, has nominated Michael Haneke for the French-language drama film ‘Armour’, which has also been nominated for other categories including Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Emmanuelle Riva), Best Original Screenplay (Michael Haneke, and Best Foreign Language Film.
Benh Zeitlin has been nominated for the American fantasy drama film ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ and this is the second Academy Award nomination for Zeitlin this year, as he has been nominated for the best Screenplay award for the same movie.
Taiwanese-born American film director Ang Lee, who has earlier won the best director Academy Award for the movie ‘Brokeback Mountain’ (2005), has made it to this year’s nomination list for his film ‘Life of Pi’.
On the other hand, Steven Spielberg, who won the best director Academy Award for ‘Schindler`s List’ (1993) and ‘Saving Private Ryan’ (1998), has been nominated this year for the American historical drama film ‘Lincoln’.
David O. Russell has been chosen as one of the nominees for the American romantic comedy-drama film ‘Silver Linings Playbook’. Besides that, Russell’s film has been nominated for the best screenplay category.
