Karnataka cancels second PUC exams, to hold SSLC exams in July

New Delhi: Taking into consideration the ongoing pandemic, the Karnataka government on Friday (June 4) scrapped the second year pre-university exams (PUC exams), and decided to conduct SSLC or Class 10 examinations in July.
"We are not holding the PUC exams this year. The grading will be based on their performance at the district level assessment in the first pre-university examination," Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said at a press conference.
It has been decided to promote the second pre-university college students to the next level, he added.
“No student will fail in class 10th and 12th. Evaluation will be according to grades," the Education Minister was quoted as saying by ANI. Students who are not satisfied with the grading system will be allowed to take the examination.
SSLC exams will be held in the third week of July. The exams will have one multi-choice question paper for mathematics, science and social science and one more question paper for languages, Kumar said.
"The multi-choice question paper for 40 marks will be easy and straight and there will not be any indirect questions," Kumar added. For the students affected by COVID-19 infection, supplementary examinations will be conducted.
After CBSE, CISCE decided to call off Class 12 board exams, several states including Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat followed suit. Other states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh are yet to take a decision on the matter. While Assam government is likely to conduct Class 10 and Class 12 board exams in the state when conditions are conducive.
