KOLKATA: In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself and streamed the entire incident on Facebook Live in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district.
According to Kolkata Police, the woman was a resident of Sonarpur's Bayedepara area.
She had streamed the entire incident live on Facebook with a person standing on the other side and watching the entire act on Saturday. The man is believed to be her boyfriend.
One of the police officers probing the case further informed that there was a sudden change in woman's behaviour after she returned home on Saturday evening following a meeting with her alleged boyfriend.
The woman's boyfriend had called her over the phone, the officer said.
The police officer, quoting her mother, said the woman did not speak to anyone after she returned home.
The deceased's mother works as a maid at a nearby hospital and had left the house by 6:30 pm on Saturday.
The woman was alone in the house as her brother and father were also out for work.
She was first spotted by her mother hanging from the ceiling fan on Sunday morning.
''When she did not wake up till 8 am, her mother became suspicious and on looking inside the house found her daughter's body hanging from the ceiling fan," the officer said.
After the primary investigation, it was found that the woman had gone live on Facebook and streamed her suicide live on it.
The police has begun an investigation into the incident.
The motive behind the woman's suicide is still not clear and no arrest has been made as yet.
