New Delhi: Delhi government launched an anti-corruption helpline number on Wednesday where people, who are harassed for bribes, will be advised on how to conduct sting operations.
“Every citizen will be a police inspector and an anti-corruption crusader. They can now use their phones as a weapon to catch officials who are asking for bribe,” Kejriwal said while talking to reporters here.
Kejriwal further said that armed with just a phone, citizens can expose corrupt officials.
“The idea behind the helpline is to strike fear in the minds of officials who indulge in corruption. Anyone who is corrupt will be charged,” Kejriwal further said.
If asked for bribes, people can report on the help-line number 011-27357169. The number will be functional from 8 am to 10 pm during the day.
“We will come up with a four-digit number soon which will be easier to remember,” Delhi CM said.
When a person calls on the helpline number, their name, phone number and conversation will be recorded.
An anti-graft official will then call the concerned person and advise them on how to conduct a sting operation. After conducting the sting operation, the concerned person needs to get in touch with the advisor and a trap will then be laid to nab the accused.
Action will then be taken within 24 hours of the sting operation and audio recordings of officials asking for bribe will also be taken into consideration.
He had earlier taken a strong stand against corruption and said that there will be no compromise on the issue.
During the oath-taking ceremony as the Delhi`s seventh CM, he also said that a helpline number for the same will be launched soon to catch officials who are asking for bribe.
